MathWorks Completes MATLAB EXPO 2014 in Bangalore and Pune

More than 1000 MATLAB and Simulink users gather in both cities to discuss innovative technology applications and new product capabilities

Bangalore, India - (15 Jul 2014)

MathWorks, the leading developer of mathematical computing software, this evening concluded the fifth edition of its annual user conference, MATLAB EXPO. MathWorks hosted the event in Bangalore and Pune this year to cater to a growing customer base in the country.

The two-city event welcomed more than 1000 participants from the commercial, government and academia sectors. Design engineers, professors and industry experts were in attendance from across the aerospace & defense, automotive, computers, electronics and semiconductors, industrial automation and machinery, and technology services industries.

Jason Ghidella, Simulink platform and controls product manager at MathWorks, delivered the keynote address titled ‘Behind Today’s Trends: The Technologies Driving Change.’

Among the highlights of the two-city EXPO were the Simulink and LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT workshops that demonstrated the potential for Project-Based Learning techniques when teaching undergraduate technical courses. Participants worked through lab modules with examples of sound tone control, line-following robots.

Other highlights included nine demo booths showcasing technologies and products such as HVAC System Modelling and Simulation using Simscape, Integrating Display Graphics Tools with MATLAB and Simulink, Identifying Plant Dynamics and Detect Faults using Online System Identification, Acquiring Data from a Live Car Engine Through On-Board Diagnostics Port, and many more. The demo booths were popular with attendees and gave MATLAB and Simulink users a glimpse into innovative applications of new products and technologies from MathWorks.

At the Bangalore location, R. K. Shenoy, senior vice president, Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions Limited, presented the customer keynote titled ‘Model-Based Design Approach for Automotive Applications.’ He said, “Industry focus on Automotive Electronics has significantly increased with the need for safer, greener and smarter vehicles. Through MathWorks offerings coupled with other tools in the Model-Based Design ecosystem, we have effectively changed the design quality and time involved in projects to meet such demands. This event serves as a good opportunity to share our experience and learn from other MATLAB and Simulink users in India.”

At the Pune location, Dr. Naveen Gautam, managing director, Hella India Automotive Pvt. Ltd., presented the customer keynote titled ‘Challenges of Automotive Product Development: Lean Development Using Modeling and Simulation Tools.’ Dr. Gautam commented, “We are happy to be part of the first edition of MATLAB EXPO in Pune and talk about our latest developments in the automotive design space. The event is a great platform for engineers to get a glimpse into how companies like Hella India Automotive address design complexities using MATLAB and Simulink.”

Speaking about the event, Kishore Rao, managing director of MathWorks India said, “In its fifth year in India, MATLAB EXPO is seen as a flagship technology conference among the Indian design engineering community. We hence decided to expand the reach of the event beyond Bangalore to Pune to accommodate customers from across the country. We thank our customers and partners for facilitating learning and knowledge-sharing over the two days, and for continuing to push the barriers of science, research and engineering with MATLAB and Simulink.”

An assortment of customer presentations demonstrated pioneering usage of MathWorks products and solutions to develop complex systems for a range of commercial and defense applications. Customers who presented at this year’s MATLAB EXPO included Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions, Continental Automotive Components, DRDO, ISRO, John Deere India, MOOG India Technology Centre, Qualcomm India, Subros, Tata Motors, University of Pune and Visteon Automotive System India.

MATLAB EXPO in Bangalore and Pune also featured dedicated exhibition areas that showcased solutions from MathWorks partners such as Altera Corporation, B&R, Cadence, ETAS, Opal-RT Technologies, Vector Informatik and Xilinx.
