The MathWorks today announced that it has signed a long-term support agreement with Toyota and DENSO, Toyota ’s primary automotive supplier, to support their automotive production programs.  This agreement will enable both companies to continue their commitment to Model-Based Design and automatic embedded code generation technology, using MathWorks simulation, modeling, and code generation products in a number of their production software development programs, including powertrain control and other electronics control units.

As part of the agreement, Cybernet Systems, the MathWorks distributor in Japan, will provide local support services to Toyota and DENSO, in close cooperation with MathWorks support staff.

“Toyota and DENSO have been very satisfied by the support services provided by The MathWorks and Cybernet Systems during our recently completed Pilot Agreement,” said Kazuhiko Hayashi, general manager, Toyota Electronics Engineering Division.   “Toyota currently has various efforts underway to promote more efficient vehicle development.   We believe that this agreement will contribute a great deal to these efforts and expect that our relationship with The MathWorks will continue for a long time into the future.”

The expansion of the Toyota and DENSO relationship with The MathWorks is the result of a successful pilot program that included the use of MATLAB®, Simulink®, Stateflow®, and Real-Time Workshop® in production programs.  The new agreement enables Toyota and DENSO to commit to Model-Based Design in current and future production vehicle programs and to use production C code for complex, real-time embedded systems.

Toyota and DENSO plan a major commitment to MathWorks Release 14 tools throughout their advanced design and production design processes.  As a result, the companies will be able to better leverage design models to address the challenges of vehicle-level modeling, controller design, system simulation, and production code generation.  By expanding the application of Model-Based Design, Toyota and DENSO intend to gain a competitive edge in the industry by delivering new vehicle designs to the market faster and more cost effectively.
