The MathWorks Opens Three Offices in Japan


Company Expands Direct Presence in Asia to Support Growing MATLAB and Simulink Customer Base


NATICK, Mass. - (1 Jul 2009)

The MathWorks announced today that it has opened offices in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka, Japan, reflecting its transition to a direct sales operation in that country. The MathWorks Japan will be responsible for selling and supporting the Company’s MATLAB and Simulink product families to the expanding Japanese customer base in a broad set of industries including automotive, communications, electronics, semiconductor, industrial automation and machinery, as well as the academic community.

“Japan represents the world’s second largest economy, a global technology hub, and is home to an expanding number of companies in growth industries. The Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka offices will provide the Japanese engineering and scientific community with convenient access to sales, training, and support,” said Jeanne O’Keefe, chief financial officer, The MathWorks. “Our direct presence in Japan will further strengthen The MathWorks position as the world’s leading provider of technical computing and Model-Based Design software and underscores the Company’s commitment to accelerating the pace of engineering and science worldwide.”

The offices will be led by Toshi Nashizawa, senior managing director of MathWorks Japan.  The MathWorks offices, which will initially employ approximately 120 people with significant local technical resources, represent the company’s largest deployment in Asia Pacific and strengthen its direct presence in the region, which includes offices in Seoul, Korea; Sydney, Australia; Beijing, China; and Bangalore, India.

The MathWorks also has offices in France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In countries where the Company does not have a direct presence, it continues to be served by authorized MathWorks distributors and resellers.
