Editorial Guidelines

The guidelines below present the correct style to use when referring to The MathWorks and its products

  • The MathWorks - The "T" in "The" should be capitalized when used as a proper noun. Use a lowercase "the" when used as an adjective. The "M" and "W" in MathWorks should always be capitalized. Do not add an apostrophe or a hyphen. Keep all on one line. The MathWorks should always be referred to in singular form (i.e. The MathWorks is...).
  • MATLAB® - MATLAB should always be written with all letters in uppercase. Use the ® symbol on the first reference.
  • Simulink® - The "S" should always be capitalized. Use the ® symbol on the first reference.
  • Stateflow®- The "S" should always be capitalized. Use the ® symbol on the first reference.
  • Stateflow® Coder - The "S" and "C" should always be capitalized. Use the ® symbol after Stateflow on the first reference.
  • Real-Time Workshop® - The "R," "T," and "W" should always be capitalized. A hyphen should always be included between "Real-Time." Use the ® symbol on the first reference. Do not abbreviate as RTW.
  • xPC TargetBox® - The "x" in "xPC" is always lowercase with the PC in uppercase. Use the ® symbol after TargetBox on the first reference.
  • Handle Graphics® - The "H" and "G" should always be capitalized. Use the ® symbol after "Graphics" on the first occurrence.
  • blockset – Write in all lowercase when used generically (a blockset). Capitalize the "B" when writing as part of a product name (i.e. RF Blockset).
  • toolbox – Write in all lowercase when used generically (a toolbox in the MATLAB product family). Capitalize the "T" when part of a product name (i.e. System Identification Toolbox)
