Industrial Automation and Machinery

Engineering Tasks

Modeling and Simulation

To meet performance, safety, and cost targets, engineers who develop industrial machinery must understand how the equipment will behave. Evaluating multiple design concepts using physical prototypes is costly and time-consuming. With the Simulink® product family you can quickly evaluate trade-offs between design options, investigate the effects of disturbances, automatically generate code, and verify that the design meets the requirements.

Simulink software lets you describe and execute the behavior of electromechanical systems, software algorithms, and environmental conditions. Using the SimMechanics™, SimHydraulics®, SimDriveline™, and SimPowerSystems™ products, you can combine mechanical and electrical designs, create models of your equipment, and simulate system performance.

SimPowerSystems extends Simulink SimPowerSystems software extends Simulink with tools for modeling and simulating basic electrical circuits and detailed electrical power systems.

You can tune and correlate a Simulink first-principles model with test data by using Simulink® Parameter Estimation™ software and the System Identification Toolbox™ product. Your model can incorporate domain-specific models, such as MSC.ADAMS and DADS for mechanical dynamics, FLOWMASTER for hydraulics/fluidics, PSpice for electronics, FLUX for electromagnetic flux in electric motors, and AspenTech Aspen Dynamics for chemical processes, as well as your own C and Fortran models.

Simulink models are the basis of Model-Based Design, which integrates design specifications, system simulation, prototyping, implementation, testing, and verification.
