Hi all,

I was using adobe illustrator for editing matlab plots. Everything was going on fine with my figures, until I tried to edit a figure by hist3. The .eps file in illustrator was not editable, instead of separating by different groups, the figure was divided by several rectangles, and I cannot edit the line or axis etc. there.

Any one can give me some tips on how to solve the problem plz?
Thanks
mono

i've had the same issue with many figures...particularly ones with filled colors (i.e. not just lines).

i've yet to find a solution online anywhere.

I've been editing eps files saved from matlab in Adobe Illustrator for years before this same problem suddenly arose now. The figure I've got problems with contains 8 layers of ordinary plots (created using plot()).
Still no ideas out there?

Found the following solution after messing around some more: save as pdf in matlab and all components of the figure become individually editable in Illustrator (CS5) (from which it can be saved as eps or any other reasonable format). Good luck!

Hi th,

Thanks for the tip. It works for me also. It is mystery that it doesn't work for eps files.

Nice day,

mono

Hi,

You don't need to save as pdf first. I use the print function and then drag onto illustroator, embed, un group and reomve the outer frame. Then everything should be fine. Print/Save using the follwing:

print('-depsc','-painters','-loose',fname)

If you are using m_map or have problems with the look of the image in illustrator then remember to rasterize once you have finished your editing and everything will look alot better.
Hope this helps
Mathew
