Developing Advanced Chassis and Safety Systems for Improved Vehicle Performance

Increasing consumer demand and legislative pressure are driving the development of advanced new safety systems, such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and obstacle detection; as well as clean engine technology, including fuel cells, hybrid engines, and advanced engine controls.

Automotive engineers are using MathWorks tools to model and simulate complex safety features involving time-triggered communication networks, electric motors, DSP-based controls, and wireless and image processing systems. To improve fuel economy and reduce emissions while maintaining vehicle performance, engineers are using MathWorks model-based control and calibration tools to implement new hybrid technologies and improve existing engine designs.

MATLAB, Simulink, and the Model-Based Calibration Toolbox are enabling engineers to develop and refine complex new algorithms and system designs on the desktop, thereby minimizing the time, danger, and expense of iterative testing in actual vehicles.
