General Store Information


Q. How do I place an online order?
A.

Step 1: Create an account or log in
If you already have a MathWorks Account, log in now. If you don't have an account, you can create one in just a few minutes.

Step 2: Add product(s) to your cart
  1. Click the "Purchase Products" link in the left navigation bar of the online store.
  2. Add products to your cart by clicking the check boxes in the "Add to Cart" column.

Step 3: Checkout
  1. Click the “Proceed to Checkout” button in your cart. (If you haven’t already created an account or logged in you will be asked to do so.)
  2. Fill in the required information on the shipping and billing pages. If your cart contains only non-shippable items, you will not be asked for shipping information.
Note: When paying by credit card, be sure to enter your name, address, and phone number exactly as they appear on your credit card statement.
Q. Do I have to create an account to place an order?
A. Yes. To place an online order you must create a MathWorks Account. Creating an account takes only a few minutes, and your account allows you to:
  • Track and view order status
  • Save items in your cart for up to 30 days and complete orders at your convenience
  • View pricing for products whenever you visit the Web site
If you do not have a MathWorks Account, you can create one now.
Q. Do I have to pay sales tax on my order?
A. The MathWorks is required to collect local sales tax for purchases made from the following U.S. states: AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, IL, IN, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, PA, SD, TX, VA, WA, and WI. If you have a question about whether tax is applicable in your area, contact us in one of the following ways:

  • Use the Request Customer Service form. A customer service representative will contact you.
  • Call the Customer Service team Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Eastern Time), at (508) 647-7000, option 4.
Q. What is the total cost of my order?
A. If an item is subject to sales tax in the state to which the order is shipped, your total cost will reflect the price of your ordered item(s), the shipping and handling charge, and the combined state and local taxes.
Q. Can my order be shipped to a P.O. box address?
A. At this time, The MathWorks cannot process orders for shipment to P.O. boxes. To complete your order, you must provide a street address.
Q. When will my order arrive?
A. Your order is processed and leaves our warehouse within 1-3 business days, at which point the travel time of your selected shipping option begins. The MathWorks does not ship on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays.
Q. How can I track the shipping status of my order?
A. You can track the shipping status of your order from the My Orders section of your account.
Q. How do I get a copy of my receipt?
A. You can get a copy of your receipt from the My Orders section of your account.
  1. Click on the order number to view order details.
  2. Click the “Printable Invoice” link to print an invoice, which you can use as a receipt.
Q. What is the MathWorks privacy policy?
A. We will not sell or rent your personal contact information, and we believe it is your right to know what information we collect, how we use it, and what your options are for its use. For full details, refer to our privacy policy.
Q. How does The MathWorks ensure that my credit card transactions are secure?
A. The MathWorks online store has security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of the order information under our control. We use industry-standard security measures called SSL encryption. Encryption helps protect your credit card number and personal information by scrambling the data in transit to The MathWorks. We encrypt every order. If you would prefer to give your information by telephone, you may call 508-647-7000.

Q. Which products and releases require activation?
A. Beginning with Release 2008a, The MathWorks requires activation of all software in the MATLAB® and Simulink® product families. Visit the Activation Overview page for more information.

Q. Can I pay for my order using a method other than a credit card?
A. No. Ordering Student Version software from this site requires a credit card. We accept the following credit or non-PIN based debit cards:
  • American Express
  • Visa
  • MasterCard
Q. I don't have a credit card or my credit card has been denied. Where else can I purchase?
A.

If you live in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Switzerland, or the UK, the MATLAB® & Simulink® Student Version might be available at your campus bookstore. Currently, students who live outside these countries can only purchase by credit card at the MathWorks online store.

Note: Add-on products are only available through the MathWorks online store and, therefore, must be purchased with a credit card.

Q. What is Student Version Activation?

Q. Why do I need to submit proof of student status? When should I submit my proof?
A.

Proof of student status ensures that only students currently matriculated at a college or university are using MATLAB & Simulink Student Version. According to The MathWorks End User License Agreement, only currently enrolled students may use the software. Everyone who purchases MATLAB & Simulink Student Version needs to provide proof of student status.

You can save time by submitting your proof of student status online when you complete your purchase of the Student Version software from the MathWorks online store, or you can submit your proof later when you receive your software. Q. What are add-on products? Where can I find a list of add-on products?
A.

Students can extend the power of MATLAB & Simulink Student Version with add-on products. These domain-specific products will help with course work in specialized areas of study.

You can view a list of add-on products by clicking the “Purchase Products” link in the left navigation bar in the online store.

Q. How do I download and install add-on products? Can I download the add-on products more than once?
A.

Purchase the add-on products you are interested in from the MathWorks online store. The receipt page that is displayed at the end of your online transaction will include link(s) to the product file(s) you purchased, including documentation and instructions for downloading. Follow the instructions to download and install the add-on product(s) and its documentation.

Each product is only licensed for a single computer, but you can download the product up to three times. Once you exceed the limit, download access is denied. If you need to download add-on products you previously purchased online:
  1. Go to the My Orders section of your account.
  2. Click the order number of the order containing the add-on product.
  3. Follow the download and install instructions displayed on the order receipt page.

Note: The MATLAB & Simulink Student Version core product cannot be downloaded.

Q. I do not have access to the Internet. Can I download add-on products from a computer other than the one where the MATLAB® & Simulink® Student Version software is installed?
A. Yes. You can download add-on products to one machine and then copy the files to the machine where the MATLAB & Simulink Student Version is installed. The machine you download to must have access to a writable CD drive to which you can copy the files for transport once they are downloaded.
Q. What is the MathWorks return policy?

Q. How do I return an add-on product?
A. Add-on products cannot be returned once they have been downloaded. If you have not downloaded the add-on product yet, contact the Customer Service team:
  • Use the Request Customer Service form. A customer service representative will contact you.
  • Call the Customer Service team Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Eastern Time), at (508) 647-7000, option 4.
Q. Can I upgrade my MATLAB & Simulink Student Version software?
A. No. There are no upgrades or trade-in credits offered on the Student Version. To obtain the most current MATLAB & Simulink Student Version you must purchase a new copy.
Q. Are add-on products compatible with any MATLAB & Simulink Student Version core product?
A. No. The release and platform for optional add-on products must match the release and platform of your MATLAB & Simulink Student Version core product.
Q. How can I tell which release I have?
A. The release number appears on the product box and CD. You can also determine your release by typing ver at the MATLAB command prompt.
Q. What is the MATLAB & Simulink Student Version Japanese Language Edition?
A. The Japanese edition of MATLAB & Simulink Student Version is functionally identical to the Student Version product available elsewhere in the world, however product packaging and some documentation have been translated into Japanese. The Japanese edition is sold through retail stores associated with universities in Japan, and it is not available outside Japan. As with MATLAB & Simulink Student Version, eligible students must show proof of their status prior to purchase or activation.
